How to get a Permanent Driving License in Delhi?

Permanent Driving Licence: – No person shall drive a motor vehicle in any public place unless he holds an effective Driving licence issued to him authorizing him to drive vehicle of that particular category.

Eligibility Criteria for Permanent Driving License in Delhi

No person shall appear for the test of competence to drive unless he has held a learner’s licence for a period of at least thirty days. The applicant should apply after one (01) months and within six (06) months from the date of issuance of his learner’slicence and should be conversant about the vehicle systems, driving, traffic rules & regulations.Fee for Permanent Driving Licence: – TheAppropriate Fee has specified in rule 32 of CMVR, 1989 is –

Any person holding a driving license to drive any class or description of motor vehicles, who is not for the time being disqualified for holding or obtaining a driving license to drive any other class or description of motor vehicles, may apply to the licensing authority having jurisdiction in the area in which he resides or carries on his business in such form and accompanied by such documents and with such fees as may be prescribed by the Central Government under Rule-32 of CMVR, 1989.

How to add another class of vehicle in driving license in Delhi?

Documents required for Addition of another class of vehicles:-

(i)    Application for the addition of a new class, Form – 8

(ii)   An effective Lerner’s License (original)

(iii)   An effective driving license (original)

(iv)   Driving certificate, Form – 5, Form 14 & Form 15 (for transport vehicles license)

(v)   School certificate of 8th standard pass for  Addition / Endorsement of transport category driving licence. As per rule 8 of CMV Rule’s 1989.

(vi)    Prescribed fee

Renewal of Driving License in Delhi

Any licensing authority may, on application made to it, renew a driving a driving licence issued under the provisions of MV Act, 1988 with effect from the date of its expiry:

Provided that in any case where the application for the renewal of licence is made more than thirty days after the date of its expiry, the driving licence shall be renewed with effect from the date of its renewal:

Documents required for Renewal of Driving Licence:-

For Private Licence:

1.    Application in Form No.9.
2.    Two copies of your recent passport size photograph.
3.    Original Driving license held.
4.    Self-Attested copies of Valid Proof of age and residence.
5.    Form No.1 self-declaration of physical fitness.
6.    Prescribed fee
7.    Valid Medical Certificate in form No.1A (In case of applicants of age above 40 years).

For Commercial License:

1. The above documents as required in Private License
2. Valid Medical Certificate in form No.1A
3. Driver refreshing Training certificate in case of HMV.

4. One day/short period Re-Fresher Training course for all other category of Commercial vehicles.

Procedure for renewal of Driving Licence:-

The driving licence is required to be renewed on or after the expiry of its validity. The applicant has to approach the local Zonal office for the same. The private driving licence is valid for 20 years from the date of issue or till the applicant turn 50 years of age, whichever happens, earlier. However, if the licence is for a commercial, passenger or goods vehicle it must be renewed after every three years. The applicant having a commercial licence, a medical certificate is required and also in any other case where the applicant has attained the age of 40 years.

How to get a Duplicate Driving License in Delhi?

Duplicate Driving Licence:- If at any time a licence granted under sub-rule (4) of the rule-24 is lost or destroyed the holder of the licence shall forthwith intimate the loss to the licensing authority which granted the licence and shall apply in writing to the said authority, for a duplicate driving licence.

Documents required for the issue of Duplicate Driving Licence:-

Following documents are required

1. Application in Form LLD.
2.    FIR/NCR the lost driving license no. mentioned.
3.    Challan clearance report from Delhi Traffic Police (for transport vehicles)
4.    Form No 1.
5.    Form No 1A (for transport vehicles) (not necessary for duplicate driving license- can be removed)
6.    Self-Attested copy of valid address Proof

7.    Prescribed fee.
